Perhaps Love

As John Denver was struggling with the pains and conflicts of a separation from his wife and impending divorce... he told of the time alone in a remote place of contemplation where he was overcome with a flood of recollected elements of his love that spilled from his pen as the lyrics to "Perhaps Love." Upon completion of the work, he overnight-expressed a copy to his wife, that she might know the depth and scope of what he was feeling. I was so moved by the video telling of the story (by both John and his ex-wife) that I am compelled to share the lyrics with you today.

Perhaps Love John Denver

Perhaps love is like a resting place
A shelter from the storm
It exists to give you comfort
It is there to keep you warm
And in those times of trouble
When you are most alone
The memory of love will bring you home

Perhaps love is like a window
Perhaps an open door
It invites you to come closer
It wants to show you more
And even if you lose yourself
And don't know what to do
The memory of love will see you through

Oh, Love to some is like a cloud
To some as strong as steel
For some a way of living
For some a way to feel
And some say love is holding on
And some say letting go
And some say love is everything
And some say they don't know

Perhaps love is like the ocean
Full of conflict, full of pain
Like a fire when it's cold outside
Thunder when it rains
If I should live forever
And all my dreams come true
My memories of love
will be of you

Perhaps love is like the mountains
Full of conflict, full of change
Like a fire when it's cold outside
Or thunder when it rains
If I should live forever
And all my dreams come true
My memories of love will be of you

That was incredibly beautiful! Thanks for sharing it with me. He had depth as a song writer. I really yearn to feel that love. E

And, in knowing You and having an appreciation for your heart, I hope for the richest fulfillment of your yearning.

This is so beautiful and heartfelt.

I felt his pain as I read it, and yet
his depth and gratitude of love must have provided him comfort and happy memories.

To provide you this opportunity to feel what was experienced by Another... is the enrichment of your life experience that I hope for with each article that I publish. I sincerely thank you for letting me know that you allowed yourself the gift of the experience.

Certainely beautiful words but to see what you have when you have it - takes a special person ! Most of us only see what we had when forced with seperation from it !

Hopefully if given a second chance we are older and wiser.

Some only recognise love when forced with withdrawal. Far better to know what you have and treasure it at the time !

How loss does clarify our abilities to focus, recognize, and appreciate! Thank you, Dear Friends for saying it so eloquently.
