Sisterhood Award

I am blessed, by Kimberly Drever, in her post at http://thejourneyofpassion.blogspot.com/2009/03/i-got-award-and-get-to-pass-it-on.html , with a singular honor that, at first blush, would seem a bit outside of the “Norm.” But I beg to linger with Kim’s sweet and altogether kind Gift to me … and let You, My darling Reader, know just how very meaningful this lovely Award is to me.

You see, the Award is one of a declared “Sisterhood.” And in her including me in the group to whom she gave this recognition, Kim said, “Now, the award is 'Sisterhood'... but these are a few 'token sisters' that I just couldn't leave out:” Then, she made some very kind remarks and sent it my way. And I am quite moved!

For, don’t you see, “Sisterhood” is a form of Kinship … an intimacy of Relationship, not born of genetic predisposition … but of election and exercise of Personal Will. That makes Kim (to my individual sense of comprehension), someone who has chosen to indicate a desire to be Kin with Me in a Spiritual Bond of familial choice. “Oh, John-Michael, you are making all too much of all of this!” you might feel yourself wanting to declare. But no! I say that we miss out on far too many opportunities to see … know … acknowledge … connect … and find Kinship with our Fellow Beings … when we allow invitations to Kinship, to slip by … unheeded, or unrecognized.

All of this surrounds the “Sisterhood Award” on its surface. But I have, earlier, heard Kimberly Drever’s Voice through her messages in comments and on her blog, “The Journey of Passion.” And that is why I chose to respond by making what she has to say, a regular part of my daily life. I began “following” her blog when I first became aware of her. And now, I smile in my acceptance of this lovely Award from her Spirit to Mine.

I am, however, departing from the prescribed set of “rules” attendant to the Award. Instead of posting the details of those whom I am “nominating” for the Award … I am sending an Email to Each, and will amend this post with only the names and details incumbent to those who elect to embrace the Award. I trust that the Guardians of the Award will be amenable to this deviation from the guidelines. (I am just too hesitant to put anyone “on the spot.”)

All of that said … I simply MUST add, “Thank You Kim!”

Here, Here! Congratulations and welcome to the sisterhood. Don't wince, but I can't help including the lyrics to Irving Berlin's ditty...

Sisters, sisters
There were never such devoted sisters,
Never had to have a chaperone, no sir,
I’m there to keep my eye on her.
Caring, sharing
Every little thing that we are wearing
When a certain gentleman arrived from Rome
She wore the dress, and I stayed home.
All kinds of weather, we stick together
The same in the rain and sun
Two different faces, but in tight places
We think and we act as one.
Those who’ve seen us
Know that not a thing could come between us
Many men have tried to split us up, but no one can.
Lord help the mister who comes between me and my sister
And Lord help the sister, who comes between me and my man.

Enjoy your award!!

You are most welcome, John-Michael! What a lovely post. I agree, it is about kinship and that we are all connected. Your voice and online presence is a gift. I'm so glad that you've adapted the award into your own style and have passed it forward.

As The Buddhist Conservative would say... Namaste

There is no sweeter "belonging" than this Place of Unity and Oneness that my Spirit has, for this short while now, known with your Spirit, My Darling Aims. How I do love the Gift of our Friendship!

I wonder, Dear Suza, what our Israel Isadore Beilin (Irving Berlin) might have produced, had he focused his prodigious talents on the Oneness, and the Selflessness, of One's surrender to Kinship ... instead of what was the popular perspective of Ownership and Exclusivity, in relationships. I imagine that his Gift could have left us with some remarkable Theme Songs for a more loving and accepting society. (Having made my inclinations in favor of Romance, all too clear in past writings ... I [in light of this Award's spirit] am feeling a bit more egalitarian, I suppose.) [smile]

How lovely, your "namaste" salutation, Darling Kinberly Drever! I have, for many years, favored the Human, Spiritual, and Eternal natures of that acknowledgment of One Another. And have known the joy of seeing Honor and Merit reflected in the eyes of individuals to whom I have introduced the message of the salutation. Hence, it has occupied a Place of note on my side-bar (just beneath the Image of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.)

I do hope that I have succeeded, in my intention, to convey just that message, "The Spirit within me, bows to, and honors ... the Spirit within you." to You.

I have oft thought about the 'root' concept of 'relating' ... that is embedded in 'Relationship.' And have enjoyed discovering ways of 'relating to' just about everyone who I am blessed to meet. Thus, i am quite comfortable with living in a constant state of 'being in a relationship' with most everybody. It does make my life a satisfying and fulfilling one!

And You, My Precious Annette, make our being 'kin' or 'related' in Spirit and Heart, so very rich and pleasant! I like each of our brief, yet satisfying, encounters.

Sisterhood, brotherhood, kinship, friendship - you, John-Michael are a wonderful example of all those words and more. Congratulations!

There is no one whose embrace I cherish more than yours, My Dear NiteByrd. Our sweet Friendship is a Kinship that I think, very often, of. And I enjoy a smile of appreciative happiness, with each reflection on You, and how You bless my Spirit.
