Our Silly Arrogance

As any Parent watches, with a knowing chuckle,
Mother Earth allows the foolish escapades of Man to play out.
He speaks of his Wisdom, Insight, Knowledge, and Might,
as he pursues his course of childish Selfishness and petty Greed.

Whilst he claims advances, in Understanding and Power,
he catalogues Earths messages, recorded in layers of stone.
There, for his information and enlightenment, She reveals her past.
And he proudly displays, all that She has shown,
in pretentious exhibition.

Yet, he misses her most profound of messages and declarations,
as he chooses to forge ahead in his willy-nilly abuse of her Gifts.
There … in museums, archives, and documented histories … She speaks,
“Go ahead … destroy yourself. You were created, out of Me, once.
I have all that is needed ... to do it, yet again.”

I read this several times, the last time very slowly so I could let it sink in. Makes me think of the doomsday clock, which states that we are but 5 minutes to midnight. Midnight being doomsday. Thank you for this John-Michael, it's always good to be reminded that the earth is our mother. What befalls the earth, befalls all of us.

we get so many reminders via natural disasters and yet we still think we are in charge....

My daughter would say, "You've been watching PBS (Public [non-commercial] Television [for our Neighbors]) again!" And she would (of course) be right. I thrill at the discoveries made as Scientists, of various disciplines, "read" the history of our Earth. The time frames, of thousands of millennia past, reveal such dramatic devastation and even complete annihilation of living creatures, in the mid-Jurasic and other periods. Yet ... here we are!

This, obviously, sparks thought processes that stimulate my unbounded faith in our Creator and this Earth. And I chortle a bit at the foolishness of Man. Our 'time-frames' are so minuscule in the scheme of the Heavens. They continue in lovely balance and control. I find that quite reassuring.

I do hope that I did not create any anxiety or discomfort in my reflections. For to bring any cloud over your Spirit, my Darling Sandra, would sadden me greatly. For I do, indeed, love You. And would only desire to encourage and uplift.

Aren't we just the silliest of creatures, My Darling Lime?! We behave as Blind ... when so much is evident. And we practice Deafness in the cacophony of species going extinct, deserts expanding, weather harshening, and water levels rising ... whilst Mother Earth patiently gives us so many chances to pay attention. Such folly! I know that our Creator must have a marvelous sense of humor.

And, in the midst of all of this nonsense, Love flourishes! In individual, distinct, and blessed places and lives. The blossom that enlivens hope and delight. Thus it is with You, Dearest Friend, and so many on this ... our little island of loving care ... our Blogging Family. I like it! A lot!

Indeed. We're silly bits of fluff in the grand picture, it seems. But, folks like yourself make other silly bits of fluff (like me) happy. Thanks!

You, My Suldog Friend, are what makes my Personal World, Grand, indeed. I mean that quite sincerely, Jim. I appreciate you beyond my ability to express. The surrounding folly and silliness, of the Pretentious and Self-Absorbed, is made bearable by your Presence.

Live each day as if it were your last, isn't that a saying? We all know that it could be ended as quickly as a click of the fingers.

'Tis all too true .. Fair CJ. Hence the urgency in my motivation to speak of all that is blessed and precious to me. You, Dear One, being at the uppermost of that list. I delight in and relish all thought of You and all, that your lovely Spirit enhances, in my life.

Yes, so silly of us to think we are in charge! I love your imagination and how you have such a wonderful way with words.

I completely agree. Brings to mind something I recently heard or read about how "they" are going to try to extract oil from the Rockies. That day I actually wept for the thought of it. When will this assault on our planet end?
Thank you, John-Michael, for reminding us all how fragile the whole thing is.
Peace, Judi

Yes - this could be looked at in many different ways JM...and I am still pondering...

John-Michael said...

You, Aims, my Darling, know me well enough, by now, to appreciate that I am smiling at having succeeded at sparking your Spirit's listening to Life's individual message to you, through this bit of 'stimulus.' To have the 'manure' of my experiences and perspectives used in Life's garden, is what I am happiest in being. The thought that I have stimulated some considerations or the budding of fresh ideas in your Spirit, is fulfillment of my purpose. Thus, I am so glad in hearing that you are considering various possibilities in his little bit. [smile]

if we do not take care of that which nourishes and sustains us, we will surely die. yet, i see ego, arrogance and a sense of entitlement clouding what seems to be so strikingly obvious.

this was excellent. a timely post for a neglectful time. i had written a similar one a while back.

blessings,
rebecca

Your words Rebecca, remind me of the value and worth of loving care and gentle nurturing as oft-overlooked mainstays of "that which nourishes and sustains us," (as you so well mentioned.) How grateful I am for Sources of such resources that are so beautifully evidenced here. For each of these lovely contributers of comments, I am ever-thankful. You included!

Very, very true, JM. Remember the old commerical, "It's not nice to fool Mother Nature!?" It's also not very nice to abuse her, either.

John-Michael said...

Ahhh, Sweet NiteByrd, I DO remember that commercial! [smile] And I thought that I remembered the product that it presented. I was close ... but wrong. THIS, is the commercial. See if your memory of the product is better than mine was.

Thank you for the grin. And the thought.

Loving you ...

I like sharing this walk through life with You, and Others whose understanding company we are blessed with, Friend Judi FitzPatrick. Thank you for your kind reminder that there are a a few who do, indeed, pay attention.
